Facilities & Maintenance Manager

Position Summary: 

Coordinates and directs the design, planning, construction, maintenance and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, and other facilities. Responsible for developing a culture that engages all employees in safety and environmental issues. Responsible for the development, implementation, and sustainment of EHS programs to ensure the safety of all employees, visitors, and contractors, protect the environment, and maintain compliance with all global and local regulations.

 

Responsibilities:

  •  Manages all aspects of facility maintenance for two manufacturing facilities and all manufacturing equipment within the facilities.
  • Oversees and directs daily activities of maintenance personnel engaged in equipment installation, facilities equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Plans, budgets, and schedules facilities modifications including cost estimates, bid sheets, layouts, and contracts for constructions and acquisitions.
  • Develops long range plans, conceptual designs, and capital outlay requirements and documentation for each facility.
  • Formulates and coordinates program specifications, requirements for proposals and contracts and associated documents.
  • Inspects construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established specifications.
  • Analyzes facilities HVAC systems, computer network wiring, lighting, and other infrastructure elements.
  • Contribute as a member of Clients leadership team that provides overall company management, direction, and strategic vision.
  • Ensures the development, implementation of, and sustainment of comprehensive EHS compliance programs.
  • Establishes culture of safety by determining safety training requirements; providing employee safety training; investigating accidents to determine root cause, circumstances and contributing factors; developing recommendations and follow up to prevent accident recurrence.
  • Provides reporting to measure the effectiveness of safety programs.
  • Engages employees at all levels in taking personal ownership for creating and sustaining a safe working environment.
  • Develops and implements policies and programs to ensure environmental regulatory obligations are fulfilled in a cost-effective manner and that environmental risks are effectively managed.
  • Collaborates regularly with Corporate Operational Excellence Group on plant EH&S initiatives.
  • Keeps business leaders fully informed about existing (and proposed) changes to applicable standards, regulations, and client requirements.
  • Develops and delivers monthly, quarterly, and annual updates and reports to the Senior Leadership team as required.
  • Conducts studies and investigations to ensure compliance with government safety and health laws, standards and regulations and industrial hygiene.
  • Audits facilities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Ensures that sites meet the environmental remediation standards in accordance with government regulations.
  • Ensures that the organization stays current with regulations related to Hazard Communication (North America, Europe, etc), including regulations related to chemical substances and MSDS and label authoring.
  • Facilitate and perform fixed asset physical inventory every three years per Standex requirements.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises a small team of employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and discipling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

Work Environment:

The Facilities & Maintenance Manager must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs, must be comfortable climbing ladders and being on a rooftop.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelors Degree in manufacturing related field, business or engineering or an equivalent combination of educations and experience. 6+ years of experience in a safety related field. 6+ years of supervisory/management experience. Mechanical knowledge, dexterity, computer skills, and mathematical skills. Exposed to noise levels that require participation in the hearing conversation program and the use of appropriate hearing protection devices. Position requires availability, on short notice and outside normal working hours, to respond to facility maintenance concerns. Knowledge of safety and health and environmental codes and regulations required. Ability to train in all areas of safety and health. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage, prioritize, schedule and balance multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent oral and written communications skills required. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, with a positive attitude to achieve personal and team goals.
